Approvals
In EdWard, the approval workflow defines the process by which an employee submits their timesheet for manager approval. However, workflows can vary widely between organisations. Some organisations may require the timesheet to be approved by multiple managers, while others may need exceptions to be raised to the HR team or other departments for further review. These workflows are flexible and dynamic, allowing EdWard to accommodate your specific business needs.
Decision Flows in Decisively
Unlike traditional systems where workflows are configured directly within the platform, EdWard relies on the underlying Decisively model to define and manage the approval workflow. In Decisively, you configure what we call Decision Flows—dynamic, rule-based sequences that define when actions occur, who is responsible for each task, and the path that approvals take.
These Decision Flows are entirely configurable, allowing you to adjust them to meet the unique requirements of your business. Whether it's ensuring multiple layers of managerial approvals or routing exceptions to specific teams, the Decision Flows can be fine-tuned to suit your specific needs.
Natural Language Configuration
What sets EdWard apart is its ability to configure Decision Flows using natural language. Rather than dealing with complex code or rigid configurations, you define the workflows in a way that mirrors the language used in your policies and processes. This makes it easier to understand, modify, and adapt the workflows as your business evolves, without the need for specialised technical knowledge.
For example, a Decision Flow might define that if an employee's hours exceed a certain threshold, the timesheet needs approval from a second manager. If there’s a specific leave type or special circumstance, the flow could route the timesheet to HR for further review.
Dynamic and Flexible Workflows
The real power of Decision Flows is in their dynamism and flexibility. Workflows are not static; they can change as your business processes evolve. If a new level of approval is required, or if a new exception rule needs to be added, you simply adjust the Decision Flow in Decisively. These changes take effect immediately, allowing you to maintain an agile approach to managing workflows.
EdWard interfaces with these Decision Flows seamlessly, managing the user interaction without the need for manual configuration in the platform itself. Employees submit timesheets, and the system automatically routes them through the appropriate workflow, whether it’s a single manager or multiple steps of approval.
Interaction with the Decision Flows
While the underlying configuration of Decision Flows is managed within Decisively, EdWard handles the interaction with these flows. Employees can submit timesheets, track the status of approvals, and receive notifications when their timesheet moves through different stages of the workflow. For managers, EdWard provides an intuitive interface to review, approve, or reject timesheets, with a clear view of where the timesheet is in the approval process.
